REVIEW

Mike Coleman produces pencil drawings of urban subject matter in a quest for what he calls “the exquisite within the ordinary”. Alleyways, Junkyards, and initially unpromising back streets are depicted with the acute precision of Gustave Dore, or the remarkable perception of the Victorian illustrators. But whereas the Victorians emphasised the chasm between the poor and the rich, Coleman shows us what great visual riches there are in the meanest of cityscapes.
